Author Visit and Testing Objects and Materials

Yesterday we were very lucky to have a visit from author Ashley Spires! She is the author of Small Saul and the popular Binky comic book series.  Students really enjoyed hearing how she gets ideas for her stories from her life experiences, her pets and her feelings.  She has written  nine books and illustrated 18 books.

Ashley read her book called The Most Magnificent Thing.    It will be available for purchase on April 1 of this year!

Ashley showed the children how to draw the dog from her latest book.

In Science we are working on a unit called Characteristics of Objects and Materials.  Today students tested different objects (plastic spoon, wood, mug, transparency, metal spoon, cloth, plastic cup and paper towel) by seeing if they could mark them with chalk, pen and crayon.

We discovered that the crayon was the best marker for most of the different objects that we tested.

This student is testing the transparency with a crayon.
