Ashley Spires Visits our School!

This afternoon we were very fortunate to have Ashley Spires, a Canadian author (who now lives in Saskatoon), come visit our school and present to the Grade One, Two and Three students.  She came to OES because our school entered a draw and was one of ten schools to receive author visits as well as the complete set of Willow Award books that will be kept in our school library.  Go to this link to find out more about the Willow Awards:

(Our Class read the Shining Willow nominees earlier this year.  Each student voted for their favorite book.  Results will be tabulated and announced at the end of April.)

Ashley Spires shared how she gets ideas for her stories and gave a neat drawing lesson on how to draw one of the characters from her books:  Binky the Space Cat.

Students watched as Ashley showed them how to draw Binky the Cat.

 Small Saul is written and illustrated by Ashley Spires.  Students loved this story of a little guy who wants to be a pirate - except he's too nice!

Ashley also writes a series of graphic novels (comic books) about Binky the Space Cat.
