The Last Post!

Students had a great time at the Spray Park on the last day of school yesterday. The sun actually emerged in the afternoon!  The children had fun playing in the sand and the water, eating hotdogs and watermelon and just being together!

I think we have some future engineers!  These students built an island with trees and other assorted decorations.

Even the teachers had fun!

Thank you to all of you who have been following the blog this year.  As I am preparing for my retirement, I am very thankful for the all the wonderful parents that I have been privileged to work with this year. My students this year were awesome!  What a great group of children to have as my last class. Have a wonderful summer!

Swimming

Here are a few pictures of our trip to the swimming pool.  We had a little rain, but no thunder or lightning, so students were able to stay in the pool for the whole time!

Last few days...

Here are some pictures of our last few days of Grade One!  Due to rainy weather, our plans for our class trip got changed at the last minute.  We were lucky to be able to go to the Western Development Museum in the morning. Students enjoyed looking at all the exhibits from the past.  In the afternoon we had fun bowling!

Yesterday, we walked down the hill to our local golf course.  Mr. M. (the golf pro), gave the students a short lesson on how to hold a golf club, how to stand properly and how to swing!  The boys and girls had a lot of fun hitting the ball, and then enjoyed hotdogs, pop and chips (provided by the golf club). Thank you!

Yummy hotdogs!

Today we are off to the swimming pool.  Tomorrow is the last day of Grade One!

Bees!

Yesterday afternoon, Mr. G. came to our class to show us his bees!  Students learned about the different kinds of bees in the hive.  They had a first-hand view of a beehive in action and got to look at the honeycombs and even have a little taste of sweet honey!

A buzzing beehive -we could hear the bees too!

The honeycombs are kind of sticky!

Shape Walk

Last Thursday, a beautiful sunny day, our class went out for a little shape walk. Clipboards in hand, we toured around the neighbourhood and looked for shapes that could be found on a variety of objects and structures.  Can you find shapes on these objects?
All lined up and ready to go!

Sci-Fi Workshops

This morning Kelsey and Amy came from the U of S to do a SciFi workshop with the students.  The focus was birds!  They led interesting activities to help students discover how birds use their beaks to eat.  They also showed how different birds have a variety of wingspans.  Students pretended to be hummingbirds to learn about how fast they flap their wings.  The final activity was making a bird out of marshmallows!  It was a fun morning.
