Pussy Willow Painting

This afternoon the students painted beautiful pictures of pussy willows.  First we viewed photographs of pussy willows and looked at real ones too.  We drew the branches and used Q-tips to paint the pussy willows.  They look great!

Story Robes

In Social Studies we have been learning about First Nations Peoples. Students enjoyed finding out about how they depended upon the buffalo for food and shelter, how they hunted and gathered their food and what effect the newcomers had on their way of life.

We learned that First Nations People used story robes to record events from their lives.  We made story robes too!  Students chose several important events from their own lives and represented them by drawing symbols and pictures on "buffalo hides" (crumpled up brown paper).

Special Visitors at School Today!

We had a very special visitor at school this morning!  One of our students' mothers brought in a cute little lamb from their farm.  She (Jenna) made herself at home in our class!

Frogs!

This week we began an inquiry unit on frogs.  Students shared their "schema" about frogs  and then we talked about different things that we would like to learn about frogs.  Students had many interesting questions!  So far, we have learned about the frog cycle (metamorphosis) as well as important vocabulary: croak, poison, habitat and gills.

We were lucky to have some real frogs visit our classroom for the day!

Students enjoyed observing Big Frog and Little Frog move around their habitat.
