A Successful First Day!

We had a very busy but successful day in Grade One!  I have a wonderful group of students and am so excited to be working with them for this year.
We spend a good part of the day developing and practicing routines and procedures that will help us to learn throughout the year.  At the end of the day, some of the favourite things were: "Gym", "Recess", "Snack and Lunch" and quite a few liked the fact that we learned how to read!
Yes!  Grade Ones can read!  We learned about 3 ways to read a book: 
1.  You can read the pictures.
2.   You can read the words.
3.  You can retell the story.
Tomorrow students are bringing their favourite books to school so we can practice retelling a story to a partner.  That will be fun!

Welcome to Grade One!

I am very excited to be starting this blog.  The purpose of this site is to keep parents informed of what is going on in our classroom.  My goal is to make at least 2 posts each week, keeping you updated of what we are learning and ways that you can help your child at home.  Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions about your child's progress throughout the year.
